Helping You Navigate Your Dental Insurance Plan
When it comes to dealing with dental insurance, many patients become frustrated at the lack of transparency on behalf of their insurer, the difficulty of navigating new, complicated jargon that they’re not familiar with, and a variety of other issues. Our team at Custer Dental Studio is here to make the process as stress-free as possible. Below, we’ve included some basic, helpful information to get you started on understanding your coverage. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our office.
Understanding How Dental Insurance Works
Dental insurance focuses primarily on prevention, which is why you can save the most money and maximize your dental insurance benefits by keeping up with your regular checkups and cleanings. Other than this important tidbit to understanding insurance, there are several terms that you should know, including:
- Annual Maximum: The annual maximum is a capped-off amount of money that your insurer will agree to pay out for treatments over the course of a calendar year.
- Annual Deductible: The annual deductible is a predetermined amount of money that your insurer requires you to pay before they’ll begin covering your treatments.
- Premium: A premium is a monthly or annual amount of money that you’ll need to pay in order to get coverage.
- In-Network: When a dentist is “in-network” with an insurance provider or plan, it means that they’ve negotiated discounted fees and rates with them.
What Your Dental Insurance Plan Covers
It’s important to note that every dental insurance plan is different, so in order to know exactly what your unique plan covers, you’ll need to contact your insurer directly. However, most plans determine coverage based on a 100-80-50 structure. What this means is that they cover 100 percent of the cost of preventive care, like checkups and cleanings, 80 percent of the cost of basic treatments, like cavity fillings, and 50 percent of more complex and serious procedures, like tooth extractions and restorations.
Our In-Network PPO Dental Insurance Providers
At Custer Dental Studio, we’re happy to be an in-network provider with Delta Dental Premiere. This means that we’ve negotiated discounted fees and rates and signed a contract with them. So, as long as you stick in-network, you’ll be able to save the most money, because the discounts allow us to pass on savings to you.
